ABOUT ME

Dr Marianne Colbran is a writer and academic.

I am a Visiting Fellow at the Mannheim Centre for Criminology, LSE. Previously, I was a Research Associate and M.Sc. Tutor at the Centre for Criminology, Oxford. Between 2011-2012, I was the second Howard League/Oxford Post-Doctoral Fellow in Criminology at the Centre for Criminology.

My first degree was in English at Oxford and I also trained as an actress at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. I studied for my M.Sc. (2005) and Ph.D (2012) in Criminology at the LSE. I have also taught at the LSE and at the University of Kent.

My first monograph on the production of television police dramas, Media Representations of Police and Crime: Shaping the Police Television Drama, was published by Palgrave Macmillan in October 2014. My second book, Crime and Investigative Reporting in the UK, will be published by Bristol University Press in June 2022. I am currently working on my third book, Policing and The Media, to be published by Routledge in 2023.

Before becoming an academic, I was a television scriptwriter for thirteen years. I was a staff writer on the long-running British police show, The Bill, for seven years and on the British soap opera, Brookside, for two years. One of my Brookside episodes was nominated for a BAFTA in 2001.
